Moms Talk Back-to-School Shopping

Sandy Springs Patch Moms Council members say they started early to avoid the mad dash.

We checked in with our Moms Council for an update on back-to-school shopping and they were happily all done. Toni Piccirillo said she buys school supplies throughout the summer to avoid the mad dash before school starts.

Bridget Brennan has chidren at Woodland Elementary and says that although she started school shopping early each year, she tends to buy too much. However, she donates any extra items to charitable businesses and organizations.

"[I] am better now about making a list of items per kid and I do use the school lists that are often online. For elementary school, I definitely use their list and keep an extra of markers, glue stick and some items they go through quickly or lose....

The other main shopping is for school clothes which is easy for Woodland Elementary which has uniforms. We go through the old ones, donate anything we can't wear that's still ok to the used uniform sale at the school and then hit Walmart, Target and Dillard's for five sets of shirt options and two to three bottoms as well as two pairs of shoes."

Julie Stanwick and Jessica Jones feel a sense of relief.

"....Truth be told, I would spend a few extra dollars and miss the sales in order to skip the mad rush after open houses begin. We already have all of our supplies for the year," said Jones.

"The kids like to buy all of their school supplies and locker items in July too, because all of their favorite things are in stock," said Stanwick.
