Parents told Woodland Elementary Principal is Gone

On Friday, parents received an automated voice message from principal Ruth L. Baskerville saying that she was resigning her position.

Sandy Springs Patch has learned that changes are under way at Woodland Elementary Charter School.

On Friday, parents received an automated voice message from principal Ruth L. Baskerville saying that she was resigning her position, according to Michael White, an active parent at the school.

"It was a completely baffling," White said.

Woodland's charter expires in June. The school planned to apply for a new charter, which, if approved would take effect in the 2012/2013 school year. That would leave the school without a charter for a year.

Baskerville is highly regarded by most parents at Woodland. However, one parent commented that she was not surprised, implying the principal was forced out.

Patch has calls into Fulton County Schools and will provide additional information later today. Woodland staff said the issue is a Human Resources matter.

I received this automated message and it stated that she was informed by HR that her contract would not be renewed in June due to a charge being filed against her with the Fulton School Board (not that she was stepping down...but she was being let go). Her resigning is different than them not renewing her. My daughter attends Woodland for Kindergarten and my experiences with Dr. Baskerville have always been pleasant and my issues have been resolved directly when needed.

My child attends Woodland. Dr. Baskerville is not highly regarded by most parents at Woodland! To the contrary, many Woodland parents regard her as incompetent, a poor leader, less than truthful, and has shown a pattern of poor judgment. Where do I even start, under Dr. Baskerville's "leadership", the school lost its charter. She submitted the charter minutes before the deadline. She failed to recognize that the county would have given her feedback and assistance if she had simply submitted the Charter earlier. Dr. Baskerville has yet to take any responsibility for the loss of Charter, or give a truthful response as for the reason for the loss of Charter. She also has a history of showing poor judgment. Recently, she failed to notify Woodland parents that the school was in lockdown--either during or after. Yet she sees fit to inform the parents about the school's fundraising activities. Good riddance! Maybe now the school can get back on track and regain its Charter!

How true your comments are. Everyone I know is thrilled at her leaving Woodland regardless of the reason. I have yet to hear one parent that is anything but excited at her exit. Not only were the parents waiting for her to leave one way or another, the staff was terrorized by her and her tactics and many have resigned. Good riddance.

I am a Woodland Parent and have been for the past four years so my child has been there since Dr. Baskerville started. I have seen the school morale, teacher enthusiasm declined, uninvolvment of parents come to past since she has been the Principal. I don't think Parents are surprised or shocked by the manner in which she sent that message because that is how she operated. She was abrupt and misleading. Losing the Charter was the eye opener for me. She would smile and call these impromptu meetings with some parents but didn't have the decency to say, I messed up with this Charter. So hopefully Woodland can get back on track with having regard for its teachers and students.

It's a shame that some parents and teachers didn't appreciate the good things that Dr. Baskerville had to offer this school. Sounds like they can't handle the truth when it is expressed.
