Five Riverwood Seniors Receive Scholastic Honors

Students from the Sandy Springs high school were honored for their scholastic achievements.

 

Five seniors at Riverwood International Charter School have received high honors.

Travis Dean, Charlie Jo Olson and Ashwin Anantharaman qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. Samantha Berenson was named a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar and Valarie Kemp was selected National Achievement Program Semifinalist.

Over 1.5 million students from over 22,000 high schools took the 2011 PSAT and 16,000 semifinalists were chosen for the National Merit Seminfinalist program, representing the highest scoring senior entrants in each state.  

The National Achievement Program is an academic competition established to provide recognition to outstanding African American high school students. From 160,000 plus students who took the 2011 PSAT, 1,600 semifinalists were announced with the highest scores.

From the National Hispanic Recognition Program, a program established by the College Board to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students, over 253,000 students took the 2011 PSAT, 5,000 were selected as Scholars.

Students must be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino to enter and must have a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Riverwood is one of the seven Fulton schools that are among the top 20 highest scoring schools in the state.
