Riverwood Charter Wants Input On New Design

A forum has been scheduled for Saturday, April 26 to discuss a new high school design.

A forum has been scheduled to discuss a new high school design for Riverwood International Charter School.

The forum will be held in Riverwood's auditorium on Saturday, April 26 at 8:30 a.m and is expected to wrap up by 12:30 p.m.  The school is at 5900 Raider Drive in Sandy Springs.

While the discussion will be centered on Riverwood, all Fulton parents and community members are invited to attend the forum. Riverwood is set to receive a 26-classroom addition and major renovation as a part of the capital program funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, the one-penny education sales tax approved by Fulton County voters.

District staff members have been directed by the Fulton County School Board to explore options of how the current project could become the first phase of a replacement school, the district said in a news release.

Before any design process kicks off, district staff will schedule a series of meetings to share information about trends in education and discuss implications on the program used to design high schools in Fulton County. The first event will feature speakers and experts in the field of education, leadership and technology.

Speakers will engage with the audience and discuss the evolving needs of today’s students, including:

  • What skills do today’s students need to be successful in tomorrow’s world
  • What have we learned about how to be more effective in teaching our students? How can a school’s design support these new approaches?
  • How can teachers tailor their teaching methods to students with different learning styles and needs?
  • How can schools encourage creativity, innovation and learning through experience?
  • How can emerging technology enhance student education?

Additional opportunities for community engagement will follow this initial event. Input received during the process, as well as corresponding cost considerations, will be used to inform potential high school program changes. These will be reviewed by the school board in late summer.
