Sandy Springs Student Appointed to Horizons Atlanta Board

Mary Catherine Thomson will serve a two-year term, helping to recruit and train student volunteers.

Mary Catherine Thomson, a rising junior at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, has been appointed to the Horizons Atlanta board of directors as one of its student board members. Thomson will serve a two-year term, helping to recruit and train student volunteers. Shewill also participate in monthly board meetings, assist with fund-raising, and present a public face of Horizons to the community.

Horizons’ mission is to provide an academic, cultural, and recreational program to diverse students from low-income families. The program is designed to participants realize their full potential through building problem-solving skills, fostering awareness of community responsibility, instilling respect for oneself and others, and encouraging a life-long interest in learning, said Director Scott Tucker. Working in partnership with families, Horizons serves students of varying academic abilities throughout their childhood and adolescence.
