Seven Fulton Educators Named Georgia Master Teachers

The Fulton County School System has the most "Master Teachers" than any school district in the state.

Gov. Nathan Deal on Friday announced the names of 24 Georgia teachers who have earned the Master Teacher certification, based on demonstrated excellence in student achievement and student growth for 2014.

Seven of those educators are in the Fulton County School System, making 2014 the fourth consecutive year in which the district has had the most Master Teachers than any district in the state.

“This is great news for Fulton County Schools and for our teachers. It shows that they are recognized for their efforts to excel and for being a top performer,” said Superintendent Robert Avossa. “I’m really proud to see our district consistently make this list of excellent teachers.”

Georgia’s Master Teacher Certification Program was established in 2005 and is coordinated by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Based on classroom performance on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test, or CRCT, documentation of student growth and exemplary professional practices, superior teachers are designated as Master Teachers for a period of seven years.

“Georgia’s Master Teachers devote their careers to cultivating the minds of our future generations,” the governor said in a press release. “There is a critical link between effective teachers and students' achievements, and our Master Teachers embody what it means to be an effective teacher. I am proud of these individuals for the example they are setting and for their dedication to our students and our state as a whole.”

Fulton's Master Teachers are:
