Woodland Elementary Wins Grant for Robotics Project

Sandy Springs teacher Deborah Bales will use the funding to develop the First Lego Leagues student competition.

 

The awarded a $2,000 grant to Woodland Elementary School for a robotics project. Teacher Deborah Bales will use the finding to develop the fourth grade First Lego Leagues competition, a school announcement said.

The opportunity would allow students of Woodland to compete using technology beyond basic computer skills. In addition to the teams, the fourth graders would participate in two enrichment days focusing on decision-making, inquiry/mystery, metaphorical reasoning, and inductive reasoning.

Woodland Elementary was the first school in Fulton County to employ gifted teaching strategies in the general education classrooms. Based on the success demonstrated in that model program, the strategies were adopted as a fundamental component of curriculum in other elementary schools throughout the county.
