Holy Innocents' Senior Selected for Prestigious Baseball Classic

A pre-game event will be televised the day before – Aug. 13th at 10 p.m., where the outstanding high school seniors will be introduced in the 9th annual event.

Holy Innocents’ rising senior Skye Bolt has been selected as one of only 40 baseball players in the nation to compete in The Perfect Game All-American Classic, slated for Aug. 14th at PETCO Park in San Diego.

Bolt will play for the East squad. A pre-game event will be televised the day before – Aug. 13th at 10 p.m., where the outstanding high school seniors will be introduced in the 9th annual event. The game will be presented by Rawlings and is formerly known as the Aflac All-American Classic.

Bolt has already committed to continuing his baseball career at UNC upon graduation in 2012.

HIES baseball coach Dylan Deal reflected on Bolt when he heard the news.

“With one year left to play, Skye is already in the top ten in every offensive category,” Deal said. “He will likely go down as the most productive baseball player to ever garner the Golden Bear uniform. Perhaps the two are inseparable, but as good as Skye the baseball player is, I like Skye the person even better. His heart is bigger than his arm and his bat.”

Bolt, a switch hitter, is the Golden Bears’ starting center fielder and has also been used sparingly on the mound when needed. He was a major part of the team’s Sweet 16 finish this past spring and is expected to lead the team to postseason once again come 2012.

An interesting note, no fewer than 40 All-American Classic participants have been selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. A record 18 former All-American participants were first round or first round compensation selections in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Some former event competitors now playing in the majors include San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey and Atlanta Braves’ right fielder Jason Heyward. Heyward competed in the event in 2006.
