Sandy Springs Family Just Shy of Fundraising Goal for 200 Turkeys

Debbie Kurzweil has inspired her family to raise money for Thanksgiving Day turkeys for client families at the Community Assistance Center. The CAC serves families in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody.

On Friday, Debbie Kurzwiel was about $500 way from her goal to donate 200 turkeys to client families at the Community Assistance Center.

“They are distributing the turkeys to clients the Monday before Thanksgiving,” Kurzweil said. “People love it because we are helping people in the community who are going through financially bad times, or lost their jobs.”

The idea to donate Thanksgiving Day turkeys to families in need has been percolating in Kurzweil’s mind for a couple of years, she said. Recently, she brought the idea to her husband and two teenage children. They decided to fundraise as a family. Her son and daughter have collected donations at their respective schools – The Weber School and Pace Academy.

“I haven’t had anyone say, 'No, I don’t want to do this.' We have gotten everything from $1 from a child, all the way up to a $500 donation,” Kurzweil said.

For logistics and tax purposes the CAC will purchase the turkeys with the donations raised through Kurzweil. You can make a donation directly through the website.
