Readers' Choice Results: Best Yogurt and Ice Cream in Sandy Springs

And the winner is...

  Yogli Mogli Frozen Yogurt emerged the winner in our Readers' Choice poll asking for the best place for yogurt or ice cream in Sandy Springs. Other choices included Bruster's Ice Cream & Yogurt, Cowlicks Yogurt and Floats, Yoforia and Baskin-Robbins.  

Update: Sandy Springs Chase Ends In Atlanta

Two are in custody while police are searching for a third.

A police chase that began in Sandy Springs and ended in Atlanta has resulted in two suspects in custody and at least one other suspect still at-large. Sandy Springs Police Capt. Keith Zgonc said two suspects robbed a man carrying an undisclosed amount of money in the parking lot of Bank of America on Roswell Road. “The suspects jumped into a car further down the parking lot,” Zgonc said.   After receiving a description of the vehicle Sandy Springs Police spotted the white Chevrolet Monte Carlo, with a drive–out tag, on Ga. 400 southbound and chased the suspects to I-285 and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. The police intiated a maneuver causing the suspects’ car to crash. Police say, several suspects exited the vehicle. Two were arrested …

Tree Down, Sandy Springs Roads Closed for Several Hours

A large tree is down and has caused damage to wires.

  Sandy Springs Police report Mount Vernon Highway will be blocked between Glen Errol and Heards Ferry Roads for approximately five hours. A large tree is down and has caused damage to wires. Crews are working but it will take a good bit of time to repair.

Private School: Fulton Science Academy Makes It Official

The school's charter with Fulton County Schools expires after June 30, and with its charter renewal and a state charter application denied, this was the only option to open in the fall.

  A sigh of relief for many Sandy Springs parents: Fulton Science Academy Middle School announced its opening as a private school for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year, the school announced in an email Thursday. The new FSA private school will now serve students with no residency limitations. "FSA will continue to offer the same superior STEM academic programs that helped it to earn the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Award as well as the Governor’s Platinum Award," according to the release sent by Katherine Dion, spokesperson for the school. She said it will provide a wide variety of free after school clubs and tutoring as well as numerous competitive academic teams. Help me out here. FSA is denied a charter by the county and the state. Fitch bond rating agency has de-rated the $20 million FSA bonds to CC as the FSA management refuses to cooperate. According to Fitch, default appears probable. Millions of dollars are unaccounted for. Construction has stopped on the new school, leaving acres of raw dirt. Children Favor Park Space at Old Target Site (Photos)

Five students representing fourth-graders at Holy Innocents' submitted proposals for Sandy Springs new downtown area to the Mayor and City Council, Tuesday.

  Sandy Springs has an abundance of parks and green space, but if you go by fourth-graders from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, children want even more. During a presentation to Mayor Eva Galambos and City Council members, Tuesday, five students offered proposals on the old Target site as the center of the new downtown area. While the details varied, each student wants a park. The five students represented 80 fourth-graders who visited the site and have brainstormed, since February, on the pressing question of what should the center of Sandy Springs' new downtown look like? The students have picked up now common lingo such as “mixed-use” and “community gathering place.” There was even a hint of a desire for connectivity between shopping …

  Sandy Springs Police partnered with Dunwoody Police for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Georgia Special Olympics, on Thursday. The four-mile run started at the site of the old Target building on Johnson Ferry Road and ended at the Publix Store, 5550 Chamblee Dunwoody Road.

Test drive the "Diverging Diamond" interchange

  Wondering how to drive through the "Diverging Diamond" interchange being built at I-285 and Ashford Dunwoody Road? You're in luck. You can give it a test run in a golf cart. On Saturday, The Perimeter Community Improvement Districts will host the test drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Perimeter Mall parking lot at Ashford Dunwoody Road and Perimeter Center West. Golf carts will be on hand to be driven on a track that will simulate the new interchange on a "windshield level." Details on Ray's on The River Health Inspection Reports

The Sandy Springs restaurant received two low grades on four visits since early April. After a low 59 on May 4, Ray's received a 91 on May 11.

  It’s been a bumpy ride for Ray’s on the River according to recent health inspection reports. Last week, the popular restaurant scored 91 after receiving a low 59 on May 4th. Other recent scores included a 77 on April 9, 2012. However, the health inspector returned two days later and gave the Sandy Springs restaurant a high score of 98. The May 4th report, which yielded the 59 score, says the visit was prompted by a food-borne illness complaint investigation. A few violations referred to food items that were at risk of contamination due to improper storing temperatures, or raw food near ready-to-eat food. Violations during the April 9th visit, which scored 77, included minor mold build-up in the ice machines, a fly trap collector stored …

'Rescuers of the Holocaust' Remembered in Sandy Springs

The closing ceremony of Am Yisrael Chai’s "Rescuers of the Holocaust" will be held at Congregation Beth Tefillah in Sandy Springs, Thursday evening.

  Stanlee Stahl, executive vice president of The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous, will be keynote speaker at the closing ceremony of Am Yisrael Chai’s "Rescuers of the Holocaust" event, at Congregation Beth Tefillah, Thursday. Am Yisrael Chai is a non-profit Holocaust education and awareness organization. The event is the culmination of Am Yisrael Chai’s annual commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day.   U. S. Senator Saxby Chambliss is the featured guest at the Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber’s Bagels and Breakfast event, Monday. Chambliss is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate. He is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; the Senate Rules Committee; the Senate Special Committee on Aging; and presently serves as the vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m., Monday, at the Westin Concourse Hotel. Online pre-registration is $15 for SSPC members, $20 for non-members and $150 for reserved tables.
