Krugerrand Found In Salvation Army's Red Kettle at Perimeter Mall

Was the coin left by a Secret Santa from Sandy Springs? It's estimated to be worth $1,700.

Reich at The Salvation Army On Friday, at The Salvation Army something gold and shiny glimmered through crinkled dollar bills and silver coins, it was a rare Krugerrand coin. “I just can’t believe it,” says Major Todd Hawks, Area Commander for Metro Atlanta, “We have been praying for something special to happen this Christmas and it did!” The Krugerrand was discovered during the routine counting of the coins. The Sandy Springs school's annual holiday event has a surprisingly popular gift item.

  From Holy Spirit Prep For years, lower school students at Holy Sprit Prep have arrived home early in December with hand decorated shopping bags filled with wrapped gifts for parents, grandparents and siblings.  They are usually some of the first presents to be placed under the family tree. Students anticipate the moment when Mom, Dad, brother, sister, grandma or grandpa, unwraps their personally selected gift from the school's Secret Santa store. Monday Expected to Be U.S. Postal Service's Busiest Day

Express Mail can be mailed as late as Christmas Eve at most Post Offices for guaranteed delivery on Christmas Day.

  It’s beginning to look like Christmas at the Post Office. And it will really look like Christmas on Monday, Dec. 17, as the U.S. Postal Service anticipates what should be the busiest mailing day of the year. Postal Service officials predict more than 658 million cards, letters and packages will be mailed on that day, compared to 528 million pieces on an average day.  The Postal Service expects to deliver 17.9 billion cards, letters and packages during the holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve. Menorah Madness Tonight and Other Chanukah Events Nearby

The MJCCA is coordinating several Chanukah programs nearby Sandy Springs and across Atlanta in December.

  A Menorah lighting and Chanukah songs will be performed at 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta. The MJCCA is holding programs across the Atlanta community December. There’s a Chanukah Pajama Party at Barnes and Noble in Buckhead, a holiday party with the Blonder Family Department for Disabilities, “Chanukah the Basics” is being held in East Cobb, “Mamakkah” at Zaban Park in Dunwoody, Menorah Madness at the MJCCA. “Latke Luau” singles event at the MJCCA, “Vodka and Latkes” for young adults older than 21 in midtown, and more. A Monday Postmarked Letter to Santa Gets a Reply

Thanks to a very special U.S. Postal Service program, "Santa" will reply to children who mail him their Christmas wish lists this holiday season.

  Sandy Springs children are making a wish list for Santa, hoping he will make all of their Christmas dreams come true. But what if Santa actually wrote back? The United States Postal Service is now accepting "Letters From Santa," a program that allows any person to play Santa by sending a letter signed by Saint Nick to any child. According to a postal service news release, "The 'Letters From Santa' program helps parents fulfill the dreams of their own children." Instructions to send a letter from Santa:

U.S. Marines to Hold Boot Camp for Toys for Tots

The boot camp event will be held from 9-11:30 a.m., Saturday, at Concourse Athletic Club in Sandy Springs.

  For years, Concourse Athletic Club has partnered with Toys for Tots and its efforts across Atlanta. On Saturday, the club hosts its fifth annual Toys for Tots Boot Camp and Toy Drive with the U.S. Marine Corps.Rough-and-tough Marines lead the event and whip guests into shape just in time for the hustle and bustle of the season. The boot camp is open to members, guests and nonmembers; admission is a new, unwrapped toy. Concourse Athletic Club hopes to collect over 1,000 gifts for Toys for Tots throughout the holidays.
