Should the location stay vacant or should another Sandy Springs business go there, if only for a few years?
Mr. Mattress Factory Outlet was a mainstay at the corner of Roswell Road and Mount Vernon Highway for 12 years. Last November, owner Glen Banham told Patch he planned to move to a new location. At the time the City of Sandy Springs intended to put a green space on the triangle as part of the master plan for the new downtown city center. The green space is no longer in the first phase of downtown plans.

Patrons visiting these restaurants will have 25 percent or more of their bill donated to Open Hand, whose efforts fight nutrition-sensitive chronic disease.
The 21st Annual Dining Out for Life event to benefit Open Hand will be held Wednesday, and several local restaurants are participating. Thousands of people from all over the metro Atlanta area will choose their favorite participating restaurant and dine out for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, knowing that 25 percent or more of their bill will be donated by the restaurant to benefit the community nutrition programs of Open Hand. Dining Out for Life is one of Open Hand's largest annual fundraising events. Here are our community's participating restaurants in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody:

Another Broken Egg Café continues its free breakfast meals through Saturday at Perimeter Village Shopping Center. Donations from patrons over a three-day period benefit three local non-profits. Today’s donations go to the Dunwoody Nature Center. Saturday’s benefit Sandy Springs-based Community Assistance Center. On Thursday, donations went to the Spruill Center for the Arts. “If you want to leave $1 that’s fine. If you want to leave $100, we love that too,” said Felicity Hall, general manager for the new Dunwoody cafe. Cajun Restaurant Creole Nouvelle will soon be in the former Fishmonger space at 4969 Roswell Road, according to a story by Tomorrow’s News Today. The location has become a popular draw with Food 101, Cibo E Beve, and Bangkok Thyme among others at that address. Tomorrow’s News Today reports that the owner closed a Creole Nouvelle restaurant on Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta in 2010.

Brazilians know Café Brazil well and now folks from everywhere are finding their way to the Sandy Springs restaurant. Manager Caio Lima said patrons range from residents in the nearby Huntcliff neighborhood to construction site workers. “We came here because the neighborhood has a lot of Brazilians in the area,” said manager Caio Lima, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His father, Alvaro Lima owns the restaurant. The busy eatery at 8610 Roswell Road, in the old Loehmann’s shopping center, opens most days at 6:30 a.m., when folks come in for the popular pastries. “A lot of people sometimes take a big pastry; it’s breaded, deep-fried and inside is beef, chicken, or ham and cheese, depending and what they want,” Caio said. A lot of cyclists ride past that area. It would be a really cool spot for a bike shop. The test rides would have to be on Mt Vernon and Johnson Ferry, but a ton of traffic goes past that spot. It would be a shame to make it a minipark with no parking. It would be a good place for an internet radio studio as well. Not a lot of businesses can survive without decent parking.   more ›
