Welcome to CAC's first blog!
If you aren't familiar with CAC, we are the Community Assistance Center. With support from donors and volunteer man-power, CAC assists families and individuals in need in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody. CAC serves about 5,000 families a year. Our goal is to prevent homelessness and hunger in our community. We provide emergency financial assistance to those who qualify, to help pay rent or keep utilities on for those who have experienced an unexpected financial crisis such as a job loss or illness and reduced wages. We also provide food and clothing to help struggling families makes ends meet. Our youth programs provide backpacks, school supplies and holiday gifts. We put on 2 annual fundraiser events a year, the Food 'n Fun Festival in the Spring and the Vintage Affair in the Fall. CAC is supported by 30 congregations of all faiths, the city of Sandy Springs, Fulton County, the United Way, civic groups, schools, individual donors and more than 300 volunteers!
You may have seen our call for food in today's Patch. The food pantry is very low on food right now, it's due to a combination of a typical decline in donations in the summer and an increase in request for food. This year the Food Pantry has received an all time high of an average of 1,200 visits a month.
And we have other stuff going on, too.
11th ANNUAL VINTAGE AFFAIR
Our annual Fall benefit the Vintage Affair is coming up on Saturday, October 5 at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, please join us and help us raise funds to help our neighbors in need. Play for CAC at the North Perimeter Optimists Club Annual Golf Tournament. Portions of Optimist event proceeds support CAC Youth Programs. It's their 25th Charity Golf Tournament! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are seeking volunteers for the food pantry on Thursday afternoons 2- 4 pm and for the Thrift Boutique on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 hours shifts. Contact Debbie at volunteer@ourcac.org.

We thank Holy Innocents' for their large donation to the school supply program. We distributed almost 1,000 backpacks with school supplies to local students in need!
TEMPLE SINAI & UPS
We're looking forward to Temple Sinai's High Holiday Food Drive to be delivered to CAC by UPS on Sept. 14. Last year they donated almost 600 bags of food!
