Sandy Springs Firefighters Battled Deadly Fire Overnight Sunday

Two people died at a residence at River Hill off North River Parkway.

Firefighters found a 54-year-old man, in cardiac arrest when they entered a residence at River Hill off North River Parkway, early Monday morning. 

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution story said firefighters arrived just after midnight, and also his 95-year-old grandmother in cardiac arrest on the upstairs floor.

Both died and were taken to North Fulton and Saint Joseph Hospitals, the story said.

Sandy Springs fire Deputy Chief Jeff Scarbrough told the AJC that three firefighters suffered minor injures. One has minor burn injuries to his hand, and another injured his knee. Scarbrough also said there was a great deal of smoke when they arrived because much of the fire had burned itself out.
