Roswell Road/Windsor Parkway Intersection Gets a 'F'

If zoning for a mixed-use development of luxury apartments, and office and retail space is approved, the intersection will be realigned as a gateway into Sandy Springs.

The Roswell Road/Windsor Parkway intersection will be realigned if zoning is approved for a large multi-use project where Chastain and Versailles Apartments currently stand, according to City of Sandy Springs staff.

The intersection is essential failing right now, said Brad Edwards, director of Traffic and Transportation, during the Planning Commission meeting, last week.

Realignment of the intersection would impact West Wieuca and Wieuca Roads, Edwards said.

The new intersection would raze the funeral home that shares a parking lot with Gallery 63 auction house.

“With existing alignment now, we have 730 feet of separation between West Wieuca and Windsor Parkway,” Edwards said. “One thousand feet is desirable. [Traffic] routinely backs up. By being able to move the intersection another 300 feet to the north, it would certainly allow for more stacking. It would help Meadow Brook in accessing Roswell Road and potentially freeing up some traffic at West Wieuca.”

A realignment is still in the concept phase, Edwards added, and a budget has not been set.

In April, Sandy Springs City Councilwoman Karen Meinzen McEnery told Patch that it’s been determined by city staff that the intersection would cost at least $4.4 million, which had been allocated to other road projects, and anything over that amount would be paid for by taxpayers.
